Preventing Camera SD Card Corruption and Potential Camera Issues

We want to bring to your attention an issue we've identified concerning our in-vehicle cameras.

There is a potential failure mode that can cause the on-board Micro SD card to become corrupted. This typically occurs when the camera is not allowed to enter standby mode fully before external power is removed (often due to vehicle isolation).

What Does This Mean?

At worst, the corrupted SD card can prevent the camera from booting properly. In most cases this can be resolved by sending a format command via the Video Platform. This can be done by going to the asset screen and clicking on the little wrench next to the camera that you want to format.

If this does not rectify the issue you will need to remove the SD card, allow the camera to fully boot and then reinsert the SD card, at this point you can send another format from the platform.

Additionally, this issue significantly reduces the amount of stored trip footage—from the usual 2-3 weeks down to just 3-4 hours. This limitation leaves very little time for video requests should you need to back up any trip footage.

Possible Causes Identified

  • Isolating the vehicle while the camera is still active in a trip.
  • Connecting the Red Ignition trigger to the same voltage source as the Yellow Power wire.
  • Installing IVMS 2.0 without verification from our support team, especially when the "Run Detect" feature is not adjusted for the specific vehicle, causing the camera to never end its trip cycle.

How to Check If Your Cameras Are Affected

You can easily confirm if any of your cameras are experiencing this issue by using the "Device Diagnostic Events" feature on the Video Platform.

We recommend taking these steps to avoid SD card corruption and ensure your cameras function optimally.
